NEWBURGH,  NEW YORK (March 19, 2022) – A construction worker identified as Lungo Oleg, of Brooklyn, has tragically died in a crane accident at a popular strip mall on Route 300.

Orange County police officials are saying that the accident took place on Thursday. Lungo Oleg was working at a construction site at a strip mall that is being turned into a HomeGoods store.

At some point the construction worked was pinned by a knuckle boom that was being used to offload steel beams from a truck. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident in order to help the victim.

Despite life-saving measures, Lungo Oleg died due to the severity of his injuries. A full investigation by OSHA remains ongoing at this time.

Cranes can be very dangerous and are responsible for numerous injuries and fatalities every year. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “From 2011 to 2015, the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) reported 220 total crane-related deaths, an average of 44 per year over this 5-year period.
